For Easy RosettaNet Apps

by Ferina Manecksha

THE successful adoption of the RosettaNet standards in the local manufacturing sector will be determined by the availability of a scalable solution architecture, enabling smaller and larger companies to connect to each other. According to GridNode’s managing director and chief executive officer Leow Chee Tong, companies will also need cost-effective solutions that can be plugged and played with minimum information technology (IT) overhead investment. The company’s GridTalk software can offer companies cost savings and shorter implementation time in their efforts to adopt RosettaNet standards. The software will be made available to local manufacturers through the recently-appointed reseller of US software developer GridNode Inc., Tradenex.com Sdn Bhd. Under the appointment, Tradenex.com, a Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) subsidiary, will offer GridTalk to manufacturers wanting to implement low-cost business-to-business applications based on the RosettaNet standards to supply the electrical and electronics hi-tech sector. The first customer to implement GridTalk is FMM under the Technology, Industry and Government under e-Revolution (TIGeR) initiative. Here, the solution will be integrated into the RosettaNet messaging electronic hub set up for TIGeR, which aims to complete adoption of the RosettaNet standards by 2005. Tradenex.com is currently working in a consortium with Mimos Berhad and MyBiz and National Information Technology Council on the TIGeR initiative to enable 15 local tier one manufacturing companies in the electrical and electronics sector with RosettaNet and electronic business applications. Pang Kang Ming, marketing manager of GridNode, said the target is to have between 20 and 30 touch points, defined as one partner interface process per customer, in the country in the logistics, retail and electrical and electronics industries.
