TRADENEX AND GRIDNODE FORM ALLIANCE TO LEAD ROSETTANET IMPLEMENTATIONS FOR THE HIGH-TECH INDUSTRY IN MALAYSIA

GridNode's GridTalk Solution Automates Real-Time Information Flow and Improves Supply Chain Efficiency Through Broad Support for the RosettaNet Standard; Tradenex to Offer GridTalk Solution to Clients Wanting to Implement Business Integration with RosettaNet-based Supply Chains

Kuala Lumpur, March 14, 2002 - Tradenex.com Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and GridNode Inc, a global software company and leading provider of eXtended enterprise Businessware (XB), today signed an agreement for Tradenex to resell GridNode's GridTalk solution in Malaysia. Tradenex will offer the solution to manufacturers requiring to implement business-to-business (B2B) applications based on the International RosettaNet standards to supply to the electrical and electronics (E&E) high-tech sector.

This initiative by Tradenex and GridNode will see both companies collaborating to provide a solution for high-tech manufacturers to automate their supply chains to transact electronically. By providing direct inter-enterprise connectivity that can speed the flow of real-time information between buyers and sellers, the GridTalk solution could reduce the transaction cost and offer better synchronization of material supply with customer demand by significantly improving inventory visibility and management.

GridTalk, an innovative XML and cost-effective solution that automates document exchange processes in manufacturers' supply chains, aligns with RosettaNet Basics, a RosettaNet milestone program that enables the affordable adoption of RosettaNet standards for small to medium-sized companies. Companies seeking to connect to global supply chain with RosettaNet by automating their business processes with their trading partners, especially Multinationals (MNCs), can now continue with their ebusiness plans despite the economic crunch.

GridTalk technology is similar to the highly popular ICQ distributed peer-to-peer (P2P) architecture. It can be used for B2B integration and collaboration. It offers a robust, yet affordable RosettaNet Basics-compliant solution for enterprises of any size, especially local manufacturing firms that supply to the high-tech sector to transact through e-commerce. Critical supply chain data, like purchase order, shipment advice, inventory forecast and invoice, for example, can be exchanged, shared, synchronized and analyzed in real-time via the Internet, reliably and efficiently. In addition to supporting the RosettaNet Basics Program, GridTalk is designed with workflow capabilities and integrates with existing ERP, SCM, and CRM systems.

"For B2B e-commerce transactions to become pervasive to local manufacturers, we have to bring cost effective and easy to use e-business applications to them. While driving an initiative to bring the manufacturing community online, we needed a solution that can enable B2B e-commerce and also allows the community to collaborate. We believe that if the young generation can use the highly popular ICQ to collaborate over the Internet, businesses can use similar P2P technologies to transact, with required business strength applications functionality and security", said Datuk Paul Low, Vice President of FMM.

To be competitive, local manufacturers have to supply globally and conforming to RosettaNet standards is getting to be a mandatory requirement for suppliers in the high-tech sector. While the large (local) manufacturers are pulled into the global supply chains of MNCs, "our challenge is to bring the smaller ones along, at the same time enable them with RosettaNet and prepare them to supply globally. We are pleased to partner GridNode to deliver innovative solutions that can help lower the total cost of RosettaNet deployment in Malaysia and make it easier for local manufacturers to run their businesses more effectively by streamlining critical supply chain business processes", Low added.

Pointing to the catalyst for the RosettaNet standard to be widely adopted in B2B integration across diverse e-business environment in the high-tech industry, Leow Chee Tong, Managing Director and CEO of GridNode, said: "In order to ensure widespread adoption of RosettaNet in the main stream market, the solution architecture for implementing RosettaNet must be scalable for the smaller companies, as well as the larger companies to connect to each other. Additionally, these companies need cost-effective solutions that they can plug and play with minimum IT overhead investment. GridNode is positioned to provide RosettaNet-enabled solution for 100% direct partner and supplier integration, thoroughly based on the peer-to-peer architecture.

The alliance is a culmination of the existing working relationship between Tradenex and GridNode to enable smaller E&E manufacturers with RosettaNet by integrating the GridTalk solution into the RosettaNet messaging e-hub that Tradenex has set up for the TIGeR initiative. The e-hub connects to an E&E marketplace set up by Mybiz on fast broadband Internet infrastructures provided by MIMOS Bhd. The alliance signifies the two companies' commitment to fully supporting and actively promoting RosettaNet standards, enabling Malaysian companies to take the lead in the supply of IT and electronic components to global high-tech markets. Tradenex is also working with GridNode on a series of seminars to introduce VMI (vendor managed inventory) supply chain management techniques to the industry.
