The take-up rate for RosettaNet Classic amongst SMEs has been slow due to the relatively high costs of deployment. As a result, large companies continue to face the reality of having to maintain multiple B2B solutions to transact with different tiers of suppliers. In particular, many large companies are investing significant amount of time and resources to operate a portal to cater to suppliers who are not B2B enabled with them.
Many large companies are seeking a single unified B2B gateway to transact with all its suppliers so that their internal users can simply interface with their existing ERP system. To do this a more affordable RosettaNet solution needs to be made available for their SME trading partners. The RosettaNet Automated Enablement (RAE) is designed to help small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) automate their electronic trading transactions at a lower cost. The RAE helps to accelerate the time for SMEs to become compliant with RosettaNet standards. By becoming RosettaNet-enabled, SMEs do not have to trade with their channel masters (hubs) via manual faxes and exchange of Excel/Word documents or by manually entering data into multiple proprietary Web portals. SMEs can enjoy a standards-based exchange with partners, and not rely on proprietary, manual or semi-automated exchanges.
GridLite for RAE is a lightweight solution to enable SMEs to participate as spokes in a hub-and-spokes model via RosettaNet standards-based communication. The hub, usually a major customer in the trading community, will need to connect its existing B2B Gateway (e.g. RosettaNet, AS2, CIDX gateway) to GridMaster, a GridNode hosted Intermediary Server that can communicate via diverse transport protocols. GridMaster will then route these documents to the spokes companies (who have GridLite installed) via RAE. GridLite reduces the total costs of ownership for the SME as both software (GridLite) and infrastructure requirements (even a basic PC with dial-up connectivity will suffice) are lightweight. SMEs can participate in multiple on-line communities through a single, unified interface (GridLite) as the different community processes and templates can be featured within GridLite. SMEs who want to extend the automation via real-time integration with their back-end system will also find this relatively easy to achieve as the business documents are actually delivered end-to-end between the trading partners.

Customer testimonials
“The solution has been very well received at our end. We intend therefore to expand the rollout to even more of our trading partners and with more PIPs involved in the next phase” says a key representative from a community hub, a leading high-tech manufacturer in Singapore.
